Granite Chief Trail

Granite Chief Trail

Granite Chief Trail- Get ready for a leg burner! This 6.5 mile hiking trail will have you chasing the ridgetop. This epic trail starts at the end of the road near Squaw Valley’s Olympic Village Lodge and tree top ropes course. You will quickly gain elevation and maintain grade all while crossing several creeks, wandering through fields of wildflowers, scrambling over slabs of granite, and entering into an enchanted grove of old growth trees.  You’ll know you have reached the top once you’ve intersected the Pacific Crest Trail. If you have planned ahead, make sure your timing is right and hike the PCT towards Granite Peak and take the Squaw Valley’s Aerial Tram down. This adds more vertical and more miles so plan ahead and bring lots of water!

Difficulty: Hard, due to distance and elevation gain.

Directions: Follow signs to Squaw Valley Ski Resort via Hwy 89, turn at the Squaw Valley Ski Resort sign. Continue for about 3 miles, once you hit a huge bend in the road, turn slight right on Chamonix Place, Park next to the Olympic Village Inn. You can also follow the signs to the Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park.
